Years have gone by. I’m finally realizing how long I’ve been putting off building something more. It may have taken a kick in the pants, but now it’s past time to get moving!

Time is going to pass anyway. You might as well build something with it.

Ever wonder how we all have the same amount of time, but some people manage to write books, build businesses, or go on a bunch of trips?

Do you look back and realize how many years just slipped by?

I sure do.

I look at my list of part-way projects and barely started ideas and can’t help but wonder where I’d be if I had worked on something every day, even a little, starting years ago.

Whether you start or not, time keeps moving.

Days turn into weeks.

Weeks turn into months.

And suddenly, years are in the rearview mirror.

But enough depressing talk!

As the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.

Over the years, I’ve watched creators, YouTubers, authors and artists build incredible things.

Not all of them stuck with it. But the ones who did built real careers out of their work.

They started small. They made a decision early on to show up and build a little each day.

That effort compounded and two, five, even ten years later, they had something real to show for it.

The classic ten-year overnight success!

Years ago, I listened to a podcast by Sean McCabe from seanwes. One idea stuck with me:

Show up every day for two years

Don’t expect results for two years.

Something might happen sooner, but even if it doesn’t, keep going.

From what I’ve seen, that tends to be how this works.

Start a blog, and over time, you might have a book.

A book is an asset!

But you don’t get that asset unless you start and keep at it consistently.

Nobody builds something meaningful overnight.

Except for a few Mozart-level geniuses, perhaps, but that’s not most of us!

For the rest of us, the path is simple.

Start.

Keep going.

Build over time.

Don’t try to build the entire thing in one sitting. You’ll burn out for sure.

The people who succeed are the ones who show up consistently and build a foundation that eventually pays them back.

Maybe we won’t change our lives in a day, a week, or even a year.

But time is going to pass either way.

So you might as well start now.

So someday soon, we can look back and be proud of what we built.

So get started.

After all,

You can’t steer a parked car.
